Javed Butler is the Patrick H Lehan Chair of Cardiovascular Research, Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the University of Mississippi. Prior to joining the University of Mississippi, Professor Butler was Charles A Gargano Professor, Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and co-Director of the Heart Institute at Stony Brook University, New York, NY, USA. Professor Butler served as Director for Heart Failure Research at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, USA, and prior to this served as the director of the heart and heart-lung transplant programmes at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, USA. Professor Butler received his medical degree from Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan, and then completed his residency training at Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA. He also obtained a cardiology fellowship and advanced heart failure and transplant fellowships at Vanderbilt University, and attained a cardiac imaging fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. Additionally, he acquired a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Harvard University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Emory University.

Professor Butler’s research interests focus on clinical trials in patients with heart failure. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine, advanced heart failure and transplant medicine. He also serves on several national committees for the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association (AHA), National Institutes of Health and the Heart Failure Society of America. Professor Butler was the recipient of the Simon Dack Award from the ACC, as well as the Time, Feeling, and Focus Award from the AHA. Furthermore, he serves on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed cardiovascular journals. He has authored over 650 peer-reviewed publications and has been cited numerous times on ‘Best Doctors in America’.
